Our Prayers Go Out For Rush

As you may have heard, Rush Limbaugh was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday with chest pains. The AP reports:

Limbaugh was rushed for medical treatment earlier in the day. The statement said "Rush was admitted to and is resting comfortably in a Honolulu hospital today after suffering chest pains."

Updated information will be posted on his web site.

Rush, along with Glenn Beck and a few other voices, has greatly helped uncover the many wrongs being undertaken by our government officials. We all pray for his speedy recovery.

Obama Doesn’t “Get It”

Barack Obama has been teenager-in-chief president for 11 months.

He has enjoyed the job with its beautiful mansion, private jet, countless staff, and all the privileges that come with the title. Recently, when asked to look back at his first year in office and grade his performance, he gave himself a B+. Don't we all wish we could write our own performance reviews? I do. In his eyes and the eyes of his most loyal supporters, he probably does rate a B+. Not in mine.

Obama doesn't understand that "We the People" do not want or approve of buy-outs, more government intrusion into our lives, a takeover of health care, nor a closing of Guantanamo. He just doesn't "get" that we want to be safe in our own land; able to go about our daily business and travel without fear.

He doesn't understand that part of his job is to be sure that we are safe to lead our lives.

He doesn't understand that the time has long past when every disaster or short-fall can be blamed on George Bush. It's been a year.

Mr. Obama, it is time for you to be responsible and accept your accountability for what happens in this country. Stop it with the blame game and be a man.

Christmas Day, but for Devine Intervention, 300 people would have died due to a terrorist attack on a plane over Detroit. What part of the term "terrorist attack" do you not understand? You can no longer minimize terror attacks the way you have in the past.

You did it with Abdul Hakim Mujahid Muhammad, the Muslim convert who murdered a US Army recruit in Little Rock, Arkansas last June. You did it again with Major Nidal Malik Hassan, a Muslim who slaughtered 13 at Fort Hood, Texas in November. You tried to do it with Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab over the weekend.

Al-Qaeda and radical Islamists have declared war on us, Mr. President.

It's time to stop throwing lavish parties, playing golf and basketball, snorkeling, jet-setting all over the world just because you can, and otherwise acting like a spoiled, rich child.

It is past time to accept the responsibility as president and lead the nation. You wanted the job. Do the job.

Interpol Threat

I'm no expert at law enforcement in this country, let alone Interpol. That being said, last week President Obama signed an executive order granting diplomatic immunity to Interpol that can have far reaching, negative results for us.

To understand better what he did while we weren't looking, read this article by Erick Erickson of Red State. He explains it in simple terms that even I can understand.

And We Are Supposed to be Scared of This?

So asks Spencer Ackerman in his blog post today:

For the sake of argument, let's take the most expansive theory of how Abdul Farouk Abdulmutallab tried to blow up a Detroit-bound passenger jet. According to the Wall Street Journal, Abdulmutallab gets an explosive device from al-Qaeda operatives in Yemen; takes a couple of layovers to get on the plane; boards with his device; ignites it; it fizzles; passengers and crew subdue him. And we're supposed to be scared of this?

Mr. Ackerman, the answer to your question is, Hell Yes!

So this terrorist was not very good at his job or his equipment failed. Maybe God stepped in and stopped the carnage. It was Christmas Day.

It brings home to us that there are still those who hate us to the point of sacrificing their own lives to kill our people. That's the bottom line. We can't afford to forget it.

The Day After Christmas

It's the day after Christmas and most of us are still feeling warm and fuzzy from our visits with family and friends. We are still checking out what presents we got, and if they were high-tech goodies, figuring out how to use them.

The only present most of us (55% according to the latest Rasmussen poll) didn't want was the health care bill the Senate passed on Christmas Eve morning. I had the opportunity this past week to personally talk to some people who, it is said by Reid, Pelosi and the Great One, would be most helped by this bill.

One is a young man of 30 years old who said his employer did not provide insurance. To purchase health insurance himself for his family of four would cost him $300. per week, he said. He opposes the health care bill! Why? Because his employer will have to close up shop or drastically change how he pays his employees as a result of the bill.

Another, a young woman of 40 years, says she cannot afford to purchase private insurance. Her employer does not provide health insurance due to costs now, and won't after health care reform either, he tells her. Her choices will be to assume the costs of a policy, pay the fine, or go to jail. She told me, while holding out her arms as if to be cuffed, that she will go to jail. "They will have to treat any illness I have, give me dental work and any medication I need in jail", she said, "and it won't cost me a penny." She is a vibrant, spicy young woman and made it clear she would go to jail to make a point of the unfairness of the legislation.

Both these young people work for small businesses. These small businesses are in trouble anyway due to the economy, and are desperately trying to figure out what to do when the added costs of health care reform strike home.

People I have spoken to who work for larger corporations are also worried. They have employer provided insurance and pay modest premiums each pay period. They feel certain their part of those premiums will skyrocket now that healthcare reform seems certain to pass. Others feel their employer will dump them into the public option, should it be reinstated during the final negotiations between the House and Senate.

Seniors I talk to are already hurting due to the lack of a raise on their Social Security this year. No matter what Congress says, inflation is here and the cost of living has gone up. Add to that the cuts in Medicare that are guaranteed in the Senate bill and the increase in Medicare premiums and they stand to be hurting even more, and soon.

The President, Reid, Pelosi, and all members of Congress and the Senate are so rich and powerful that they have no clue about life as an ordinary citizen. I believe they think everyone in the United States has the same amount of income that they do, except for some minority groups.

The people I talked to were not members of minority groups. This was not a scientific poll; it was conversations with friends and people who were willing to share their thoughts. These were people who for all their lives had let the government do its thing, while they worked and supported their families. These are average American's who are mad as hell and scared to death.

The healthcare fight is not over, it may take a month or two for the final bill to be passed and signed. In the meantime, we average American Citizens need to keep up the effort to contact our representatives of both Houses and try to make them see the light. It isn't too late, but the clock is ticking. Call, write, and email your representatives today and every day. Hound them at every turn. Maybe they will listen to us at last, maybe not.

We have to try….before we run out of time.

Merry Christmas

We all pause this day, regardless of our individual faith or station in life, to celebrate Christmas.

The story of the babe in a manger all those years ago gives us hope and joy in times when otherwise there might be none. It gives us peace when peace is a hard commodity to come by. Today, even more than New Years Day, represents the end of a year and a fresh beginning.

As we celebrate this day, let us remember that if this great land succumbs to the socialist agenda being pursued by our government leaders, if it caves to the political correctness that removes all religious references from our holiday, then we will have lost one of the most important things of all: our spirituality.

This great country was made great by its people and their belief in a Higher Power. To some it may be a Power other than Jesus Christ and the Judeo-Christian God. It does not matter. All faiths recognize this day as a great day in the history of mankind.

The magic and wonder that a god would come upon a mere human woman and produce a man whose teachings have so influenced the world is something that should never be forgotten or pushed aside. The world is a better place for His existence and we in the United States owe our greatness to Him.

I pray from the bottom of my heart that each of you has a wonderful Christmas surrounded by those you love.

Merry Christmas!!

Which Label Do You Prefer?

Senator Shelton Whitehouse, D-RI, stated on the floor of the Senate on Monday that opponents of ObamaCare are 'birthers, right-wing militias, and aryan groups.'

Perhaps the Senator has been consulting with DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano, who referred to war vets returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, gun owners, religious people, and Patriotic citizens who believe in the Constitution as 'potential home-grown terrorists.'

So writes Anthony G Martin of the Atlanta Examiner. You can find his full article here. You can find a video of the Whitehouse speech here.

I and many more average American citizens oppose the ObamaCare bill. We are disgusted and appalled by the backroom deals and downright bribery that has taken place to push it through the Senate. Tomorrow morning they will vote it through and Nancy Pelosi will gleefully rubber-stamp it in Congress and speed it over to the White House for Obama's signature.

In early 2010 we will reap the rewards with higher taxes, higher Medicare premiums, less medicare coverage, and a government takeover of our economy and our lives that is unprecedented.

If we don't like it, well, they will call us more names.

Names like insurgents, terrorists, rebels (being from the South I sorta like that one), malcontents, and trouble-makers.

They will put us down and say we are just too ignorant to understand what a good thing they have done for us.

What they don't understand is that we are not ignorant. We are not stupid. We know corruption and graft when we see it and Lord, do we see plenty of it in Washington right now!

Its time to get out the tar pots and several tons of feathers.

They are calling us names. Nasty, derogatory names.

I prefer to be called a Patriot.

Congress Sticks It To Us Again

Check this out boys and girls. They have managed to screw over us again.

Congress Hurts Those Who Most Need Credit Cards - David C. John - The Corner on National Review Online

Will The Stupidity Ever End?

How many stupid Obama Administration ideas can I think of on a morning when I almost qualify as brain dead? Hmmm.

Cash for Clunkers comes to mind, the Stimulus Bill that didn't stimulate anything but more taxes, the Health Care Bill(s), that also just add more taxes, Cap and Trade which will add more taxes and destroy what's left of the economy, the Treaty Obama is probably going to sign in Copenhagen, and now, the latest: the Cash for Caulkers Program to encourage us to weatherize our homes.

Just goes to show you, the liberal nutcases in Washington have a never-ending list of ways to spend our money, without even asking. If we tried that out here in the real world, it would be called theft and we'd get a one-way ticket to the nearest jail.

Gasp: The SUN Melts Glaciers!

Oh no! Al Gore will be on life support if this becomes widely known.

According to an editorial in Investor's Business Daily:

Drip by drip, like a glacier melting in the sun, the claim that man is changing the climate is dissolving into irrelevance. The recent findings of Swiss researchers expose another hole.

Scientists at Zurich's Federal Institute of Technology have found that solar activity caused Alpine glaciers to melt in the 1940s at rates faster than today's pace, even though it's warmer now.

The study found that the sun in the 1940s was 8% stronger than average and far more powerful than it is today. It also concluded that solar activity was weaker from the 1950s to the 1980s, an era in which the glaciers advanced.

The Swiss researchers are spinning their own work, saying that the evidence doesn't mean the public can stop worrying about man-made warming. But their finding validates other researchers who have said solar activity has a far greater impact on temperatures than human CO2 emissions.

Who would have thunk it? Of course, Al Gore believes the polar ice caps will be melted completely away in a few years (at least during the summer months). I hope I live long enough to see him proven wrong on that one.

I use Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, and blog my heart out on several blogs. I belong to many online political groups, including The 9.12 Project, Conservative Underground, As a Mom, and a few more.

I believe Big Brother is watching me and anyone I associate with online. I also know I am a very small fish in the pond. My words are not widely read. I don’t have that much influence on that many people. But still, I am against the direction the current powers-that-be are taking the country and their disregard of the Constitution. So, I am a radical of sorts.

I just stumbled upon an article on NewsBusters.org about Big Brother’s online monitoring activities as reported in an editorial in the NY Times.

The lead in the Times article sums it up:

The government is increasingly monitoring Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites for tax delinquents, copyright infringers and political protesters. A public interest group has filed a lawsuit to learn more about this monitoring, in the hope of starting a national discussion and modifying privacy laws as necessary for the online era.

Law enforcement is not saying a lot about its social surveillance, but examples keep coming to light. The Wall Street Journal reported this summer that state revenue agents have been searching for tax scofflaws by mining information on MySpace and Facebook. In October, the F.B.I. searched the New York home of a man suspected of helping coordinate protests at the Group of 20 meeting in Pittsburgh by sending out messages over Twitter.

In some cases, the government appears to be engaged in deception. The Boston Globe recently quoted a Massachusetts district attorney as saying that some police officers were going undercover on Facebook as part of their investigations.

I can’t help but wonder what would happen if this information had come to light during the Bush administration. The liberal media and bloggers would be up in arms. All MSM outlets would be demanding hearings and investigations. As it is, in the ObamaNation, it barely gets mentioned on an editorial page.
I just wanted you to know, we are being watched and the files on us dangerous, Constitution loving Patriots are growing daily.

Obama Update, Ho Hum

OK, yawn, I'm up way too early and have been web surfing and coffee drinking while my brain cells tried to kick start themselves into consciousness.

The royal couple are having a great week. They are in Copenhagen today, collecting the Nobel Peace Prize. Yawn. Oh, and Mrs. Obama has been selected as Barbara Walter's "Most Fascinating Person of the Year".

According to the LA Times, the number of American's who believe the president deserves to win a Nobel prize is dropping like a rock. He isn't gaining much favor from the European's either:

And according to news reports early today, Obama's decision to cancel numerous traditional visits by a prizewinner, including a news conference, a meeting on peace with children, viewing an exhibit in his honor and a concert, isn't going over too well up there. The president also rejected a lunch with Norway's king.

The CNN poll found only one percent of Americans do not have an opinion on the president's peace prize.

Doing the math from those numbers, that means that during the past eight weeks or so the proportion of fellow countrypersons who think the Chicago Democrat is undeserving of the global peace prize distinction has gone from an overwhelming 67% majority up to a gargantuan, groundshaking tsunami landslide majority of 80%.

I'm not going to comment on the Peace Prize this morning. I'll just direct you to a post I wrote on my other site. I still stand by that post.

As for the First Lady's honor, I'll again quote the LA Times:

Well, the long wait is over.

The holidays can now proceed.

Barbara Walters has announced the official Barbara Walters' Most Fascinating Person of 2009.

It's not Adam Lambert, the oral sex mime. No, it's not Lady Gaga, the whatever. Nor is it Kate Gosselin. Or even Brett Favre.

And it is definitely not
Sarah Palin, who is a Republican making her second unsuccessful bid for the coveted national broadcast honor.

They were all just thrown in for the ratings mix anyway. Along with, of all people, Fox News' Glenn Beck.

Are you sitting down?

Barbara Walters' Most Fascinating Person of the Year is .......Michelle Obama. A Democrat.

No, really.

Well, I'm not surprised, are you? Be sure to read the whole article. It is amazing that the First Lady was stammering in her replies to Ms. Walters. Maybe she was star-struck. Or maybe she needed to borrow Dear Leader's teleprompter…

I don't know about you, but I need some more coffee. Maybe with a shot of something else thrown in for good measure.

How Much Will Cap & Trade Cost You?

Thanks to the folks at The Cost of Energy Project, you can find out with this cost of energy calcuator.

I live frugally and learned my additional costs will be $806.40 a year. Guess I'll not be complaining about working overtime anymore.

This and all the other new taxes and regulations Mr. Obama and his henchmen are adding to my financial load make me feel as screwed as an energy efficient light bulb. How about you?

Obama’s Coup d etat via the EPA

President Obama is looking more and more like a third rate dictator to me. We are all hoping and praying to vote him out of office in 2012. What if, bear with me here, what if he discovers some emergency and uses it to postpone the election . . . indefinitely? Or, what if he uses good old fashion Chicago tactics and rigs the election, with a little help from his friends at ACORN and other subversive groups like the New Black Panthers. Remember the thugs at the Pennsylvania polling site, yep, those guys. The Justice Department has let them go scot free. What message does that send? Will we have to go into the voting booth armed? Will the votes be counted by the folks who counted votes in Iran? Fraud and corruption as rampant as they are in the current administration, I'd not be surprised.

Obama's use of the EPA to declare CO2 a hazardous material is an example of how he plans to take over the nation. It is totally against the Constitution and is being justified by the "emergency" of global greenhouse gas emissions. When did it become an emergency? So now are we supposed to live without breathing? To put it in very simple terms: plants use CO2 as their primary food, turning the air we exhale and CO2 produced by living our lives into oxygen and water, which we need for survival. It's a nice little arrangement the Earth invented on Her own, without help from scientists, congressmen, presidents, or Al Gore. Remember Al Gore, the fellow who invented the Internet and when that didn't pay off, discovered the "emergency" of global warming? Global warming has paid off for him, handsomely, but I digress.

Even the British have taken note of this travesty. Gerald Warner writes in the UK Telegraph:

Who needs tanks on the lawn when you have the Environmental Protection Agency? Barack Obama's use of the EPA to pressurise the Senate to pass his climate change Nuremberg Decrees shows his dictatorial mentality. He wants to override Congress, which is hostile to his climate gobbledegook because it is representative of the American electorate, and sideline the nation's elected Senators by ruling by decree, courtesy of the EPA. This is a coup d'état.

And what is the justification for this undemocratic action? The allegedly imminent threat from "Anthropogenic Global Warming". There is always a supposed threat, when tyrants take the stage. The President of the United States has just reduced his moral authority to the level of any Third World dictator heading a "Government of National Emergency". Fortunately, the world's leading democracy, which he is trying to subvert, has guarantees of liberty so deeply embedded in its Constitution that US citizens are well placed to fight back.

He goes on to say:

Obama hates America and, increasingly, that sentiment is being reciprocated. This is a socialist, World Government putsch. Have the American people the resolution to resist it? We shall soon know.

Well, do we have the resolution to resist? I hope so. If not, soon we will cease to exist as a nation of free people and will become the slaves of our vainglorious dictator-for-life.

Palin Derangement Syndrome: Dishing Out Low Blows

It's late at night or very early in the morning, depending on your perspective. To me, having just arrived home from work, it's late Friday night. Anyway, I'm making an attempt to catch up on my reading and write a post simultaneously. I usually read Legal Insurrection first. Mr. Jacobson has written several posts about Palin Derangement Syndrome, a condition contracted by most liberals during the 2008 election cycle. Currently, the liberal blogosphere is having a field day dissecting Mrs. Palin's book. I have a copy of said book, and since we are expecting inclement weather here in the backwoods, I intend to read it this weekend.

One of the most vicious of the leftwing bloggers is Andrew Sullivan of The Daily Dish. For some reason, known only to Mr. Sullivan, he is obsessed with the notion that Mrs. Palin's baby, Trig, is not hers:

Since the Dish has tried to be rigorous and careful in analyzing Palin's unhinged grip on reality from the very beginning - specifically her fantastic story of her fifth pregnancy -  we feel it's vital that we grapple with this new data as fairly and as rigorously as possible. That takes time to get right. And it is so complicated we simply cannot focus on anything else.

And in another post:

Palin has never produced Trig's birth certificate or a single piece of objective medical evidence that proves he is indeed her biological son. A child with Down Syndrome must have a pile of such records,  tests, assessments and ultrasounds that conclusively prove that he is Sarah's biological son. It seems bizarre to me that neither the public nor the campaign (so far as I can glean) has ever been given one of them.

I am aware that the liberal left is scared to death of Sarah Palin. Only fear can bring people to attack a person with the hatred they show daily. I don't understand why it is necessary to attack an infant. Unless you are King Herod and fear the eventual overthrow of your kingship by the child. I don't think that is their worry. They are afraid of the mother. Her common sense approach to government is alien to the liberals and they are attacking out of pure fear.

I'll give you my take on the Palin book later this weekend. Something tells me it is going to be a great read. Something tells me that she and I are made of the same stuff.

Be afraid, liberal cowards, be very afraid.

Job Summit Photo Op

Today's job summit is just more posturing and a photo op for Obama and his henchmen. As a former small business owner, I don't see anything positive about the meeting.

Once more, the administration is showing its lack of comprehension about the economy. The list of attendee's and non-attendee's tells the tale. There will be no representatives from the United States Chamber of Commerce at the summit. There will be no one present from the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB). Really? Why not?

In attendance will be representatives of labor unions, environmentalists, and liberal economists. To my knowledge, none of these groups has ever had a part in job creation; instead they are the most instrumental in job destruction and prevention.

As each day passes, I am more convinced that this man we elected President and those closest around him are clueless. Mr. Obama is in way over his head and those he surrounds himself with are no better prepared to lead than he is.

After the meeting today, Obama will give us yet another campaign speech while nothing has been done to help anyone. It's just another photo op.

Global Warming - Not

Most of you who watch the mainstream media for your news don't know about the global warming scandal. I've been watching it unfold with a personal sense of satisfaction. I never believed in man-made global warming to begin with. An article I was reading on NoisyRoom.net made me decide to fill you guys in on some of what's going on.

An article in Investors.com reports:

Last week, someone (probably a whistle-blower at the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, England) released e-mails and other documents written by Phil Jones, Michael Mann and other leading scientists who edit and control the content of the reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The e-mails appear to show a conspiracy to falsify data and suppress academic debate in order to exaggerate the possible threat of man-made global warming. (Emphasis mine)

The misconduct exposed by the e-mails is so apparent that one scientist, Tim Ball, said it marked "the death blow to climate science." Another, Patrick Michaels, told the New York Times: "This is not a smoking gun; this is a mushroom cloud."

The advocates of global warming, Al Gore at the forefront, have been selling us a bill of goods. The group of individuals and corporations who stand to reap rich rewards from "green" products and services are working overtime to keep this information from reaching you.

Brain Overload Syndrome

I have been ill. After the Senate Obama-Care bill passed I contracted a deadly virus called Brain Overload Syndrome (BOS).

I was exposed to this virus by reading too many news reports, watching too much television news, joining too many conservative groups on the internet and reading too many conservative blogs.

The symptoms include:

  • A feeling of despair and hopelessness
  • Inability to concentrate on National events
  • Inability to pick a topic for a blog post
  • Inability to write a blog post
  • Wanting to go hide in a corner and wait for the Nation's destruction
  • Hair-pulling frustration with our leaders

Desperately I searched for a cure. I couldn't just sit down and shut up. Well, I could, but I thought my followers, however few, might miss me. I knew that in these desperate times each and every voice is important and should be heard. Besides, I've never been one to sit down and shut up, just ask my husband.

I abandoned the news this past week. Oh, the television was on, my husband and I both are both avid FNC fans. I just stayed busy with other things. I downloaded some eBooks to my laptop and phone; novels instead of US History and current political titles, and put my mind somewhere else.

Ever so slowly I felt the symptoms of BOS begin to lessen.

One of the hallmarks of this administration is to have so many crises or potential crises taking place simultaneously that no one can keep up with everything. Each seems direr than the last, especially if you are a taxpayer, and pretty soon the exhaustion of BOS takes over. That is their plan: to overload us into complacency, then completely take over each and every part of our lives.

I still have some novels to finish. In the meantime I am gently resuming my political reading and listening to the news. My recovery is well underway. I just wonder if I have developed any form of immunity to BOS. The administration has doubled its efforts during my illness. They want the disease to reach epidemic proportions throughout the population.

We can't let that happen.

Happy Thanksgiving

It has been a busy week for me and all my fellow patriots who read this blog. Most of you, like me, have been preparing for the Thanksgiving holiday. Many are traveling. I wish you a safe trip.

We are truly blessed to live in our wonderful country. We will be twice blessed when we turn Her direction around and take back the control that is ours by right from those who have let power and corruption become their Gods.

Today, however, take a small break. Enjoy your families. We can resume our work tomorrow.

God bless you all.

Late Night Legislation - Again

According to a report in The Hill, Harry Reid is planning a Saturday night vote on his massive health care bill. Following Nancy Pelosi's lead in sneaking things through just before midnight, I suppose he thinks we won't notice.

I continue to be amazed at what our runaway legislators are willing to do. The majority of Americans do not want health care reform that totally remakes the system at astronomical costs to the taxpayers. The latest Rasmussen poll shows that only forty-seven percent (47%) of voters approve the health care overhaul. That number is the highest ever, but still shows that less than half of American voters approve.

According to The Hill article, Reid says he has at least abandoned his plans for pushing the bill through using budget reconciliation rules. This would allow passage with only 51 votes instead of the normally required 60 votes. I, for one, don't believe him. I watched the power plays, backroom dealings and shenanigans used by Nancy Pelosi to get her version of the bill passed two weeks ago. Although there is usually more decorum in the Senate, I expect more of the same. The pork plate will be handed around and Reid will get his way.

The estimated cost of this bill is hard for me to fathom. According to The Hill article:

The healthcare reform bill Reid introduced Wednesday would spend $848 billion over 10 years to extend insurance coverage to 31 million more people, which would amount to a 94 percent coverage rate for all legal U.S. residents below retirement age. Including those over 65 and enrolled in Medicare, 98 percent of legal U.S. residents would have insurance coverage, Reid said.

Through a combination of more than $400 billion in Medicare spending cuts and more than $370 billion in new taxes, the bill also would reduce the federal budget deficit by $127 billion over 10 years, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

This is a lie. The taxes required to pay for this monstrosity begin immediately; the benefits begin in 2014. We will pay taxes for 5 years on something we do not have access to. How fair is that? What about all the lives that will be lost during those five years due to lack of health insurance? If the House and Senate are so concerned about lives lost due to lack of health insurance, why not make it available now? If there is such a rush to pass this legislation, why must we wait five years to get the coverage? Can, or will, anyone please give me the answer?

Reid and Company are doing creative accounting by putting off the benefits until they have collected five years worth of taxes, thus making the cost appear lower than they will actually be. Slight-of-hand that would make P.T. Barnum proud! That's all it is. If I can figure it out (and I'm self-educated) surely everyone else can! How stupid do our elected officials think we are?

Don't believe they are going to raise your taxes? Check out the tax hikes that go with the bill here. Scroll down past the cartoon (it is cute, but hey, this is serious). And read the list. Everything will in some way hit your wallet, so don't say, "well I don't have that" or "that doesn't apply to me". It all applies to you, me, and everyone else.

Melt your Senator's phone lines.

Pray.

Right now I think prayer and otherworldly intervention is the only hope we have.

The government will soon rule every aspect of our lives. The tipping point of power is here. It may already be behind us. Are we still a nation governed of, by and for the people? Or are we subjects to King Obama, Prince Harry and Princess Pelosi?

I am feeling a bit ashamed at my lack of posts this week. Regular life has been working hard at getting in the way. Rest assured I am staying current on the events taking place and will soon provide you with some more Granny Comments on same.

In the meantime, if you have something that's bugging the heck out of you and you want to know what I think leave a note in the comments box for this post and I'll tackle the issue right away.

Madder than Scratch: Blood Pressure Up Again

I've stayed off the computer and away from the news channels most of the weekend. It was nice. I almost had myself calmed down.

Then I made the mistake of "checking email" before bed; which of course really means checking Twitter for links to articles, reading blogs, checking news sites and other blood pressure raising activities.

I'm upset about the bow Obama made to the Japanese Emperor. I work for a Japanese company and know the protocol for 'meet and greet'. This was way out of bounds even for a commoner like me, much less the President of the United States.

Since being in office, this president has gone out of his way to apologize and show the world that we are subservient to everyone. If he personally wants to brown nose world leaders that's his choice. It is not fine with me that he does it as our leader and thus, implies we are the lowest of the low right along with him. Did he ever read any history books, watch any WWI or WWII documentaries, or learn anything about our nation and the good it has done in the world?

Since this man has been in office, it has become apparent to me that his main goal in life is to completely destroy the United States. George Washington, the other Founding Fathers, and every citizen since the Mayflower must be rolling over in their graves.

He has managed with the help of the dynamic duo, Pelosi and Reid, to take over private industry and banking, pass the bankrupting stimulus bill, is attempting to take over our health care, and plans on pushing through the Cap and Tax bill. The two later will mean a take-over of every part of our individual lives.

There is no doubt about it; the man is out to totally turn the country we love and life as we know it upside down.

When he and his cronies are finished, our dollar will be worthless, we will be totally under government control and the great experiment of a free people in a self-governing nation will have failed. Failed! Do you understand? The United States will be a failure. The greatest country that has ever existed, that shining city on a hill, will be no more.

The freedom's we take for granted will no longer exist. As the song said, "You don't know what you've got till it's gone…"

Obama’s Job Summit

Ok, so I am sitting here, in my pajamas, late at night working on a blog post. Does that make me unusual? I doubt it. I'm not in the basement though. No sir, Granny writes from the top floor. . . she can see further that way. What does make me unusual is that I have a job, a manufacturing job at that. Wow!

I see Obama has finally made a decision. Well, kinda, sorta. With unemployment now at 10.2 percent, he is going to (insert drum roll) have a White House Summit to address the problem.(Do you suppose they'll serve beer?) I guess the dollars he originally threw at the problem didn't work. Remember the we have to pass it now stimulus bill in February? It hasn't created any jobs that I've seen and I am not sure about the "saved" jobs either. Most economists I've seen on TV are saying that the number of "saved" jobs is vastly over-stated. I think they don't exist.

An article by Julie Pace on CNSNews.com quotes Obama on the December summit, "We are open to any demonstrably good idea to supplement the steps we've already taken to put America back to work,"

I'll bet they are, since none of the steps they've taken seem to be working.

After making his announcement on the jobs summit, Obama took off for Asia on another Presidential trip. He sure loves to fly on his personal jet. The Associated Press article here gives his planned stops and meetings in more detail than I feel like delving into this late at night. In my opinion, he will be on a combination apology/begging tour this time around. Apologizing for all the things wrong about us (in his enlightened eyes) and begging the Chinese to keep loaning us money.

At the rate Obama's administration is borrowing money from China, we will be teaching all children Chinese as a second language within a decade.

With the job summit in the works and the trip underway, Obama has the world by the tail. Of course there are those other pesky issues: terrorism at Fort Hood, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the Obama Care and Cap and Trade disasters working their way through the Senate, disgruntled citizens, etc. But, wait! He has Pelosi, Reid and the Czars handling those issues. Have a nice trip, Prez.

Finding Inspiration

We have been protesting, writing letters to our representatives, calling and emailing. They continue to ignore us and pass legislation we do not want. We have formed groups. We have gone to town hall meetings to no avail. It is easy to get disheartened. I know it was happening to me. I am a woman who people say has "bull-dog tendencies". When I get hold of something I believe in, I won't let go. I take that as a compliment. I was getting disillusioned at the prospect of the people who work for us ever listening to us. I was ready to give up, I wanted to just let go.

Yesterday was Veteran's Day. The ceremony in which the President lays a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers was in progress. Our television was on and I walked into the living room to watch. What I saw made me stop at the door.

My husband sat in his wheelchair, directly in front of the TV. He sat as straight as his body allows, silently saluting as the wreath was laid and Taps played. As the sound of the bugle ended, he finished the salute with the crisp sharpness of a Veteran. You know how to salute after spending 40 years in the Air Force.

It was then I continued into the room and wrapped my arms around this man who gave so many years to his country. A man who's only regret is that he no longer young enough or healthy enough to be on the front lines today.

Today I'm back at my calling, letter writing, and anything else I can to get our leaders to listen. I owe it to my husband and the other Veterans who gave so much. It's my way of fighting for them. Fighting that all they fought to preserve continues to be preserved for generations to come.

It's the least I can do for them.

God Bless Our Veterans

They range in age from elderly to early twenties. They walk among us every day, some scarred from battle physically and others emotionally. They have seen and experienced things we can never imagine. Thanks to their commitment to our protection we are free.

My Uncle, Father-in-law, and Uncle-in-law were WWII and Korean War Veterans. They seldom talked about what they endured in battle. Many of my friends marched off to Vietnam and returned completely changed. Some returned in body bags, others their bodies whole, were torn apart emotionally.

Since then the Gulf War, Iraq War and Afghanistan War have sent more and more brave young men and women marching off to fight for our freedom. These brave Soldiers put their lives on hold and volunteer to protect the rest of us. My grandson has been in the current war zones for two tours and may go back.

My husband is a Vietnam Veteran. Last year at this time he was in hospital. He had nearly died the week before and came home on Veteran's Day. Just before he was released, an off-duty nurse who had cared for him earlier that week returned to the hospital. He made the rounds of the floor, giving all the Veterans a small American Flag and thanking them for their service.

It was a small gesture. It meant so much. There is no way to express our thanks to that nurse. The little flag still "flies" proudly in my husband's sick room. It is located where he can see it each day upon awakening.

Today I stop and thank my husband, grandson, and all the other veterans for their service to our country and to each of us. May all those who have served, are serving, and will serve in the future be blessed.

If It Talks Like a Terrorist and Walks Like A Terrorist…

Then, by golly, it must be a terrorist!

Now it didn't take this old country girl long to figure out last Thursday night that Major Nidal Malik Hasan is a terrorist. He is a Muslim with an attitude. That much was reported early on. He sure created plenty of terror among our brave soldiers when he attacked them at Fort Hood. Our soldiers were queued up, waiting for processing, like ducks in a shooting gallery. Hasan knew they would be all neatly lined up. He knew they would be unarmed. He knew they would be completely unprepared for an attack. The scene had to be complete bedlam as our young soldiers and civilian personnel tried to escape or find cover to avoid the volley of bullets he poured upon them. They felt a terror that we can only imagine.

Hasan injured up to 42 people. He killed 13.

A day late and a dollar short we find out that he had attended the same mosque as 2, maybe 3, of the 9.11 terrorists. He was guided by the same cleric who counseled the hijackers. He has remained in contact with this cleric, Anwar al-Awlaki. The UK Telegraph reports:

Hasan attended the mosque at the same time as the hijackers in 2001 when it was led by Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical American-born Yemeni imam. Awlaki left the US the following year, eventually going to Yemen, from where he targets Muslims in America with radical online lectures.

It emerged on Monday that Hasan had been in contact with Awlak within the last year….

In a posting on his website on Monday, headed "Nidal Hasan Did The Right Thing", Awlak said Hasan had carried out a "heroic and virtuous" act and the only way a Muslim could justify serving in the US Army was to "follow in the footsteps of Nidal Hasan".

He said: "Nidal Hasan is a hero. He is a man of conscience who could not bear the contradiction of being a Muslim and serving in an army that is fighting against his own people."

Hasan may have acted alone. Investigations are ongoing to discover links with Muslim extremist groups. It is already known that he attempted contact with al-Qaeda. In the weeks and months ahead I'm sure more information will come out about his terrorist leanings and activities.

But I already know: Nidal Malik Hasan is a terrorist. He is a traitor. He is a murderer. He should be treated as such.

Could It Happen Here? Sure!

According to a report on the web site nbcmiami.com, a Cuban blogger was seized and beaten by government types last Friday while on her way to a peaceable march against violence.

Trail-blazing Cuban blogger Yoani Sánchez says she was headed to a peaceable march against violence with friends in Havana Friday when she and fellow writer Orlando Luis Pardo were confronted by three men in plainclothes presumed to be state security, forced into a car, and assaulted.

"No blood," she reported to El Nuevo Herald. "But black and blues, punches, pulled hairs, blows to the head, kidneys, knee and chest...[after being] thrown head-first inside, they applied judo or karate holds to us and the punches . . . kept raining down."

Sánchez says she and Pardo were driven around for about 20 minutes before being "violently thrown on the street" near where they were first accosted. Their friends reported being taken to a police station in a second car, where they were questioned and released.

Apparently she had blogged safely until she began signing her name to her posts.

Since she began signing her name to blog posts she composes in Cuba and e-mails to friends in other countries for publication, Sánchez has received critical acclaim and several awards for her social commentary and missives about every day life on the island from the government to food to baseball. Though awarded Spain's Ortega y Gasset Journalism Award and Columbia University's Maria Moors Cabot Prize, she has been denied permission to leave Cuba to accept. In 2008, Sánchez, a philologist by training, was named one of TIME Magazine's 100 Most Influential People.

Could this happen in the United States? Sure it can, and I predict it will.

The bloggers in the United States are hitting fast and furious at the corruption, backroom deals, and total disregard of our government for the people. Bloggers are reporting what the main stream media won't. Sooner or later, an effort will be made to shut us down. It may come as regulated content on the internet, IRS harassment, or violence. The test then will be whether or not we are brave enough to continue our work in the face of adversity. I think we will.

Midnight Reflections

My husband and I watched the debate and passage of the House Health Care Bill on C-SPAN Saturday. It was an all day affair. Partly through the afternoon we took a break and went outside for awhile. When we returned they were still debating. It was after 11 p.m. when the vote was finally taken and the bill passed. I had been in front of the television for hours with my laptop making comments on Twitter.

I didn't post last night. I was too upset and burned out.

I know that this bill will have to be reconciled with the Senate bill (if passed) and that it isn't the final version by any means. I am thankful for that. I hope good sense will prevail and provisions in the bill which take away so many of our freedoms will be removed in whatever version may become law.

Yesterday was the best lesson in how our government really works that anyone living in this country could ever have. Backroom deals between the Speaker and members of congress are what allowed it to pass. Bought endorsements from the AARP and AMA, made it sound legit. Promises, of God knows what, were made and accepted and thus we had a bill that the majority of Americans don't want stuffed down our throats.

As a regular working class American, I felt cheated and robbed. I felt abused and used. As I watched hour after hour of whining and crying by those who wanted to get their way at all costs I became more and more angry.

They have forgotten that they serve us. They are living in a fantasy land. The entire lot of them are nuts! Power hungry, power grabbing, nut cases. I kept wondering what lies and smooth talk got them elected. Do they send them to a school to learn arrogance? Do they really care so little about the welfare of the people? Do they think we are all 2 years old and need Mommy and Daddy Government to do everything for us and regulate everything in our lives?

Am I to soon be in jail because I can't afford their damn government health insurance? I don't think so….. I'll not go peacefully……

So, damn the liberals who are so arrogant as to think they know what's better for me than I do. I'd have not made it through all the crap I've lived though if I were the helpless dummy they believe I am. No one else in the country could have either. Everyone has their share of hard times, awful times, broke and despondent times. We make it through because we are Americans and because of our Faith, and Family. Usually we make it in spite of the Government.

They can't stand that thought. Well, damn them all.

Condolences

My family and I send our condolences to those who lost loved ones at Fort Hood. We pray God will grant them strength as they face this journey of horrific pain and sorrow. Likewise our prayers go out for those wounded in this massacre. May the Lord heal your bodies and spirits.

Yet Another Health Care Rant

The AP is reporting this morning that the final debate and vote on Nancy Pelosi's health care bill is expected Saturday. They also expect the AARP to sell out its members indorse the bill sometime today. The Senate, according to Prince Harry, their bill will not be up for a vote until early 2010.

The bill; any bill they come up with, is going to cost you and I more money than it's worth, and is just another power grab by the would-be nanny state government to control every aspect of our lives. Let's face it, everything we do or don't do in some way affects our health. Where we live, our habits (good and bad), what we eat, what we drive, where we work, who we marry, and how many children we have. . . As a parent of 4 children I can tell you the stress I brought on myself by that decision, but I digress.

To me, the AARP endorsement means nothing. They are a money hungry machine and care very little for the senior citizens they claim to serve. I can't help but wonder what special favors or incentives' they received for their endorsement.

Universal coverage, what both Houses have claimed was behind this fiasco the entire time, is non-existent in both bills. The Democrat bill would only cover 96 percent of eligible Americans and the Republican bill only 83 percent.

I've been preaching against government run health care since the debate started and I am not letting up. I've been emailing my Congressman and Senator and suggest you do too. Today I plan to start faxing them. I suggest you do too.

Let their staffers arrive at their offices and find fax paper all over the floor. Let the reams of paper from our faxes (we are paying for it) bring them to their senses. Let the paper avalanche show them that the American people do not want this monstrosity of a bill to pass in any version.

After you have faxed them into oblivion, start calling and jam their phone lines. Then, repeat the process. Its good mental and civic exercise!

We want to make our own decisions, and have the government mind its own business. They should be worrying and doing something about what we do want, for example; jobs, a decision on the war in Afghanistan, making the United States independent of foreign oil by drilling here, and many more issues.

We are a resilient people; give us the opportunity and we will take care of the rest. Those guys and gals in Washington just don't get it!

Recommended Reading: Saul Alinsky, the American Organizer

I have about a million things to do this morning and other than the video in my last post, was going to let the sleeping blog lie. Then, thanks to a brief post on Michelle Malkin's blog, I decided I had to dash off this post.

I have a copy of Rules for Radicals, by Saul Alinsky. It is a huge seller on Amazon.com right now. I am working my way through it, slowly. I haven't had much time for reading. The reason so many copies of a book written in 1989 are being sold is simple: It is
the liberal playbook. To beat the forces undermining our country we have to follow the same rules of engagement.

Groups such as the corrupt ACORN and many others most of us have yet to hear of follow the guidelines set out in Alinsky's books. The only way to fight them is to use their time-proven methods. Glenn Beck does (he may not realize it) with astounding success.

The difference between liberal radicals who use Alinsky's methods and conservatives is that liberals are using these methods to turn the United States into a Socialist nation. Conservatives will have to use them to return the country back to the Constitution and our conservative roots.

This link to the National Education Association's (NEA) recommendation of the book to our teachers (who are mostly all liberal) will tell you more.

Thoughts on Pelosi’s Health Care Proposal

My old brain is not working at top performance (I was up too late last night). I did want to comment briefly on the latest Health Care fiasco by Nancy Pelosi and her gang.

Pelosi has come forth with her massive Health Care proposal. You know, the Health Care that will be sure everyone in the United States will be insured, will save all of us money, help the economy, and NOT raise taxes. Yep, that one.

The 1990 page bill (light reading) is now available for all with the fortitude to slog through. I am struck by the stupidity and arrogance of our legislators as they once again prove that they have no clue about how businesses operate. Of course, they have been proving that for years if you look at the stupid business decisions they make for the country. Yes, I do believe the country should be looked at and operated like a business: it is the largest employer in the country, so what shouldn't it adhere to basic business principles? A good article explaining how the bill will negatively affect you can be found on the FreedomWorks website. Info about the GOP's alternative health care proposal can be found here.

It all boils down to the fact that the United States can't afford the bill as it is set forth. My husband and I looked at new cars recently. We came home in the car we have owned for 6 years. We couldn't afford a new one. Why can't our legislators use the same logic as a couple of older folks in Western North Carolina? It was relatively simple for us to say, "We have this much income, this many obligations, can we afford to do this?" Answer, arrived at in a bipartisan manner, "No."

Letter from Kay Hagan

October 28, 2009
Dear Friend,

Thank you for contacting me regarding your concerns about health care reform. I greatly appreciate hearing your thoughts on these important issues.

Each year, costs associated with our current system increase. North Carolinians are struggling to afford insurance coverage, and the unprecedented economic crisis facing our nation has made it still more difficult for working families to manage medical costs while making ends meet. In North Carolina alone, the number of uninsured has risen to approximately 1.8 million, which represents 22 percent of the state's population.

The United States spends more per capita on health care than any other developed nation, over $2 trillion per year, yet this fact is not reflected in our health outcomes. A Commonwealth Fund report compared the American health care payment and service delivery system with that of six other developed nations. The report found the United States to have poorer health indicators and outcomes, as well as a more fragmented and unstable system with substantial delays, waste, and paperwork.

As you know, there are various opposing views within the health care reform debate, and I would like to address a few here. When crafting the Affordable Health Choices Act, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee bill, we went to great lengths to ensure that if you have a health insurance plan that you like, you can keep it. Moreover, no one will be required to participate in the Community Health Insurance Option, including individuals, employers, and health care providers.

I recognize that medical liability reform has the potential to reduce medical malpractice insurance premiums for health care providers and decrease defensive medicine practices. Accordingly, I am in favor of President Obama's plan to implement demonstration projects to evaluate medical liability models being used and implemented around the United States.

In addition, concern has been raised about illegal aliens being able to receive medical services under health care reform. The Affordable Health Choices Act defines an eligible individual as a citizen or lawfully admitted permanent resident of the United States. Illegal immigrants would be explicitly barred from receiving services under the legislation.

Also, some believe abortion services could be covered under health care reform. This is inaccurate, due to a long-standing federal law that includes a broad prohibition against using federal funds for abortion services. Health care reform would not change that prohibition, which is known as the Hyde Amendment.

Furthermore, it has come to my attention that some believe there would be rationing of health care services under health care reform. The Afforable Health Choices Act would not do anything to limit the ability of your doctor to pursue the course of care he or she believes is most appropriate for you. While the bill would fund research into the comparative effectiveness of various treatments, that information will simply serve as a tool for practioners to use as they see fit. The Affordable Health Choices Act specifically states that any recommendations made under health care reform shall not be construed as mandates for payment, coverage, or treatment of health services.

I will continue to work with my Senate colleagues and stakeholders throughout North Carolina to help pass pragmatic, comprehensive health care reform. For the most up-to-date information on health care reform, I encourage you to follow the Senate HELP and Finance Committee websites, found at www.help.senate.gov and www.finance.senate.gov. There you can find the draft legislation and proposals, bill summaries, press releases, amendments, and a variety of publications.
Again, thank you for contacting my office. It is truly an honor to represent North Carolina in the United States Senate, and I hope you will not hesitate to contact me in the future should you have any further questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Kay R. Hagan

'A Time for Choosing'

This speech by Ronald Reagan is as relevant today as when he made it. I was only 12 years old at the time; most of my readers were yet unborn. Please watch the whole video. We need a man (or woman) like him now, desperately.

Teenager-In-Chief

Barack Obama rolled into office with the glory and pomp of a victorious Roman Emperor. From the celebration of his nomination to the inauguration itself; it has all been a really big show. Obama likes really big shows. He loves being in the spotlight. Nothing is as important to him as the pomp and circumstance, the glory, of being President of the United States.

Despite his worries about climate change; he rivals Al Gore in carbon emissions with his constant use of Air Force One. After the gigantic panic and rush through of the Stimulus Bill, it waited for his signature until he could fly cross country for the signing ceremony. Almost daily, he flies somewhere to give yet another campaign speech (you won Barack, enough already). His trips may be free for him; but we pay dearly for them with our tax dollars. The fuel used by the massive Air Force One vastly outstrips Al Gore's private jet, which is also in regular use while polluting the atmosphere. If you care about the environment enough to push Cap and Trade, Barry, just have a "fireside chat" from the White House and save the fuel and carbon emissions. Practice what you preach!

When not jet setting off to make another public appearance and speech, Obama likes to play golf. He has, to date, played more golf while president that President Bush did over his entire term. When not playing golf, he likes to play pick-up basketball. He talks and he plays. Meanwhile the rest of us, those lucky enough to have jobs, work our tails off to pay the taxes that make his glorious lifestyle possible.

He also likes music and parties. Did I mention the White House parties and musical events we have hosted (paid for) but did not get to attend? (Source)

The overgrown teenager that holds title to President of the United States has so far only proven to me that he can talk (with the help of a teleprompter), play, fly in Air Force One, and pout like a small child if everyone doesn't adore him and tell him a million times per day how wonderful he is.

The members of our dysfunctional, corrupt, self-serving Congress and Senate are not much better. They are the perfect match for the teenager-in-chief and together they are going to drive us, their parents, into the poorhouse and crazy to boot.

Public Option Is Not Dead: Here We Go Again!

Senator Harry Reid announced yesterday that the public option is not dead and will be in the new health care bill he is bringing to the Senate floor.

These power grabbing, electorate ignoring "representatives" of ours still don't get it. They don't understand that the majority of American's do not want their government run health care plan. Or, maybe they do get it and just don't give a rat's ass what we want!

No matter which poll you look at, the majority of American's do not want the public option. However, the Anointed One does, so good old Harry and the rest of the liberals in the Senate and House are obliged to get in line and bow to the Anointed One's wishes. They will cram what they want down our throats whether we like it or not. It's the Liberal Way. We had better just sit down and shut up; because "they" know what's best for us. We, the mere peasants, are too ignorant to know about such things.

If there was ever a time to make our voices heard it is now. Will they listen? Probably not. They will continue on their merry way, taking away each and every freedom we have left while they march our entire country toward bankruptcy.

What am I going to do? I'm going to step-up my individual pressure on my senator (the liberal Kay Hagan) and my blue-dog congressman (Heath Schuler) in my attempt to be heard. Will they listen to me and my fellow Western North Carolinians? I hope so.

Hagan and Schuler: You better listen, because if you don't I will do all in my power both in this blog and in my everyday interactions with others to get you fired come your next elections. And as for the Anointed One: I'll be working to fire him, too.

That is, if they let us vote.

Just Thinking

I know I'm getting older and my mind isn't always as quick to "get" things as it used to be. I should have started paying closer attention to politics when I was younger.

I thought Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State. Why then was John Kerry picked to read the riot act to Afghanistan's President Hamid Karzai? True, Kerry was in Afghanistan already, picking up some valuable press time for himself. Maybe he was just there when Comrade Obama made the decision to encourage Karzai to submit to a run-off election since so many of the votes for him had been obviously fraudulently cast.

I also think it strange that our government officials are so concerned about 'fair' elections in other countries while seeking to ignore obvious voter fraud here in the United States (ACORN comes to mind here and the recent fraud allegations in New York).

The more I pay attention to politics the more I see what a tangled mess of interconnections it is. More than my old brain can comprehend sometimes.

First Amendment

In case any have forgotten the text of the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Read it and then read it again. Commit it to memory.

When you gather to worship, regardless of which faith you adhere to; remember that the First Amendment gives you the safety and security to worship as you please, or to not worship at all if that is your choice. It prohibits any law setting a State Religion to which everyone must belong. It prevents any religion from being singled out for persecution.

When you voice an opinion disagreeing with the action or non-action of the government (federal, state, or local), or march in a protest rally; the First Amendment guarantees you the right to do so safely. Without the First Amendment you would be afraid to protest, afraid to write a blog like this one, afraid to tell your neighbor what you really think about the Mayor, Governor, or President. Without the First Amendment; you could not call or write your elected leaders or go to the Capital to speak against policy decisions that hurt you or your neighbors or the country. Decisions would be made and you would have no choice but to accept them in silence. You would be too afraid of the knock on the door that signaled you were about to be taken from your family, interrogated, imprisoned and maybe killed for expressing your thoughts.

Without the First Amendment, your newspaper, television news and radio broadcasts would all be censored and only the information approved by the government in charge would be reported. Scripted accounts of every aspect of local, national and world events would effectively keep you misinformed and in the dark. Knowledge is power and a government controlled press would render you powerless.

Commit the First Amendment to memory. There seems to me to be a concentrated effort by many in our government and country to wipe it from the book. If we do not stay vigilant, the First Amendment Rights we take for granted may disappear.

Fiddling While America Burns

My passion saving for our way of life here in the United States is a surprise to my children and grandchildren. My children are a bit surprised at how passionate I have become about the path our country is traveling. The passion has always been there, I just didn't vocalize it. I should have. I took for granted that the United States was and would forever be the greatest country on the planet.

I and millions like me didn't pay attention as little bits of what made us great were whittled away. If we noticed, we were complacent and let our voices go unheard. Over the years, more and more corruption, behind the scenes deals and pay for play transactions took place in Washington and on the local level. We all bitched and groaned amongst ourselves. But no one did anything.

Now we find ourselves at the eleventh hour and the clock is ticking loudly as the seconds march by till the passing of our freedoms is complete. We are scrambling to do what should have been done long ago: return our country to the values that made it great in the first place. We are shouting at the leaders we put in place. We have learned that one party is not much different than the other. We have realized the people who we voted for care not one whit what we want or think. They have elected themselves our parents; they feel they know what is better for us than we do. And, by God, they are going to make us do their bidding instead of them doing ours.

What have we done? Is it too late to turn back to what made us who we are? Will the people as a whole rise up and take our country back? Can we? Are there enough people left with the backbone our forefather's had? In my heart I hope so. In my mind I doubt it.

Will our country, as we knew it, become a fairy tale for us to repeat to our grandchildren like the fallen Roman's told tales of greatness to their grandchildren after the fall?

Our arrogant President is fiddling while America burns. Why shouldn't he? He and his ultra liberal cohorts are the ones who doused the gasoline and lit the match. The change he promised to his cult-like followers was not change we can endure. Re-read his speeches and insert the word 'destroy' for change. Then you will have a clearer picture of his intent. Not just him, but the whole pack of liars and crooks we have in office.

You Might Be a Constitutionalist If. . .

After answering the following questions in this blog post on the AARA site, I know for certain that I am a Constitutionalist. This is an excerpt of an article by Chuck Baldwin.

Take the test and if you learn that you, too, are a Constitutionalist; let you every action in regards to government at all levels, but especially the Federal level, but guided by Constitutional principles. If we all stand up for what our country is based on we will once again be the greatest nation on the planet. If we don't, our nation will become a footnote in history.

You Might Be A Constitutionalist If . . .
by Chuck Baldwin
October 20, 2009 (an excerpt)

Might you be a modern-day Minuteman who understands the principles of freedom and federalism? I offer the following test. Read it and see if you, too, are a Constitutionalist. (Yes, Martha, this is another Jeff Foxworthy spin-off.)

1. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that every congressman, senator, President, and Supreme Court justice is required to obey the U.S. Constitution.

2. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that before the United States invades and occupies another country, Congress must first declare war.

3. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe the federal government should live within its means, like everyone else is forced to do.

4. You might be a Constitutionalist if you think that taking away people's liberties in the name of security is not patriotic, nor does it make the country more secure.

5. You might be a Constitutionalist if you would like to see politicians be forced to abide by the same laws they make everyone else submit to.

6. You might be a Constitutionalist if you understand that we have three "separate but equal" branches of government that are supposed to hold each other in check and balance.

7. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that the federal government has no authority to be involved in education or law enforcement, or in any other issue that the Tenth Amendment reserves to the States, or to the People.

8. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that gun control laws do nothing but aid and abet criminals while trampling the rights and freedoms of law-abiding citizens.

9. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that the income tax is both unconstitutional and immoral, and, along with the I.R.S. and the Federal Reserve, should be abolished.

10. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe the federal government had no authority to tell former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore that he could not display a monument containing the Ten Commandments in the Alabama Judicial Building in Montgomery; or to tell a Pace, Florida, high school principal that he could not pray before a meal.

11. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that Congress or the White House or any sovereign State is not required to submit to unconstitutional Supreme Court rulings.

12. You might be a Constitutionalist if you understand that freedom has nothing in common with illegal immigration.

13. You might be a Constitutionalist if you understand that outsourcing American jobs overseas is not good for America.

14. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that the United States should get out of the United Nations and get the United Nations out of the United States.

15. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that it is not unconstitutional for children in public schools to pray or read the Bible.

16. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that the Boy Scouts are not a threat to America.

17. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that the federal government should honor its commitments to America's veterans and stop using U.S. military personnel as guinea pigs for testing drugs and chemicals.

18. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that U.S. troops should never serve under foreign commanders or wear the uniform or insignia of the United Nations, and that they must never submit to illegal orders, such as turning their weapons against American citizens, or confiscating the guns of U.S. citizens.

19. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that the federal government has no business bribing churches and faith-based organizations with federal tax dollars.

20. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that federal agents who murder American citizens should be held to the same laws and punishments that any other citizen would be held to. (Can anyone say, "Waco" and "Ruby Ridge"?)

21. You might be a Constitutionalist if you understand that NAFTA, GATT, the WTO, and the FTAA (and similar agreements) are disastrous compromises of America's national sovereignty and independence.

22. You might be a Constitutionalist if you would like to see congressmen and senators be required to actually read a bill before passing it into law.

23. You might be a Constitutionalist if you understand that it is the job of government to protect and secure God-given rights, not use its power to take those rights away.

24. You might be a Constitutionalist if you understand that there is nothing unconstitutional about the public acknowledgement of God and our Christian heritage.

25. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that government bailouts and "stimulus" expenditures defy virtually every principle of free enterprise and are a flagrant leap into socialism.

26. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that airport screeners have no business touching women's breasts, using sophisticated machinery to look through passengers' clothing to see their naked bodies, confiscating fingernail clippers, or denying pilots from carrying handguns.

27. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that many public schools' "zero-tolerance" policies are just plain stupid.

28. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that parents have a right to homeschool their children.

29. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that governmental seizure of private property is plain, old-fashioned thievery.

30. You might be a Constitutionalist if you are personally determined to not submit to any kind of forced vaccination.

31. You might be a Constitutionalist if you oppose any kind of national health insurance.

32. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that U.S. troops are not the world's policemen, that they are not "nation-builders," and that their purpose is only to defend American lives and property, not to be the enforcement arm of international commercial interests or global elitists.

33. You might be a Constitutionalist if you understand that the county Sheriff is the highest law enforcement officer of his district and that federal law enforcement (much of which is unconstitutionally organized, anyway) is obligated to submit to his authority.

34. You might be a Constitutionalist if you are determined to oppose America's merger with any kind of regional, hemispheric, or international government, such as the North American Union.

35. You might be a Constitutionalist if you oppose sending billions of taxpayer dollars as foreign aid; the U.S. State Department meddling into the private affairs of foreign countries; and ubiquitous foreign entanglements that require vast sums of money, create animosity and hostility towards us, and expose us to foreign wars and conflicts in which we have no national interest.

36. You might be a Constitutionalist if you would like to meet one single congressman or senator besides Ron Paul who acts as if he or she has ever read the U.S. Constitution.

Well, how did you fare? Are you a Constitutionalist? If so, your country desperately needs you to stand up and fight for freedom's principles before they are forever taken from us. This means never again voting for anyone--from any party--who will not preserve, protect, and defend the U.S. Constitution. So, don't just take the test; make the pledge!

Response from Heath Shuler

I wanted to take a moment to share this reply to an email I sent Rep. Shuler about H. Res 554.

Thank you for taking the time to contact me with your thoughts regarding H. Res 554. Your views are important to me, and I appreciate hearing from you.

H. Res. 554 would require legislation and conference reports to be available on the Internet for 72 hours before being voted on by the House of Representatives. I am a co-sponsor of this legislation because I believe it is important for Members of Congress, their staff, and the general public to have time to read and understand legislation before it is considered on the House floor. A 72-hour waiting period will ensure that bills are given due consideration and not rushed haphazardly through the legislative process.

Again, thank you for sharing your views about this important matter. I encourage you to check my website at www.house.gov/shuler for continued updates on my work, and please do not hesitate to contact me again about those issues that are important to you. It is an honor to serve you in the U.S. Congress.

Sincerely,

Heath Shuler

Member of Congress

Reporters and Journalists: Bloggers (and Fox News) Are the Only Ones Left

All my life I have wanted to be a writer. I wrote journals, I wrote letters, I wrote a few articles, now I write my little blogs. I'm not a journalist, nor a reporter. At least I didn't think I was.

After the latest Sunday appearances' by Obama's henchmen, and their deliberate attempt to diminish Fox News to the level of an "opinion only" network; I'm not so sure. The Obama Administration controls all the television outlets except Fox News. They are attempting to tear Fox News down because they won't play ball. Obama has said he will "consider" a newspaper bailout. This would put the newspapers under government control. He also has plans in the works to take over radio and the Internet.

Once those things come to pass; we will be spoon fed government propaganda 24 hours a day. Even our entertainment shows have fallen under the spell of the administrations' wishes. We've had Green Week, now we are going to have Service Week. All propaganda, gee, sounds like some of the communist countries we studied about as children.

This could not have been slipped in on us so easily if the reporters had reported the truth and the facts. They did not investigate nor did they report. It would not have been so easy if the media had not become so enthused at the thought of the first black president that they stopped doing their jobs. If only our media had not transformed into groupies, behaving like teenage girls fainting over a rock star. If only they had remembered who they were and what their job in our republic is: report the facts to the people so they (the people) can decide what they think and believe.

I and millions more like me are reporting on our blogs. We research and seek out the truth when we could be spending time with our families. We write our blogs to report what we have learned. We share information the only way we can. We write our opinions about the information we have uncovered. We are the only reporters and journalists American has left other than Fox News. We are indeed 'citizen journalists'.

May God Bless Fox News and all their reporters and commentators and may God Bless the bloggers who have taken up the responsibility that the mainstream media tossed by the wayside. May He bless our efforts and keep the Internet free from government censorship long enough for us to wake everyone up to what is happening to our country.

Update:

I wrote the above post in the wee hours of the morning. After some thought about my praise of Fox News (which I let stand) I have a question for the folks at Fox... Where was the coverage of the Can You Hear Us Now? Tea Parties on October 17th? You covered all previous Tea Party activities. Where were you on this one? Bowing to pressure perhaps???

I'd have noticed this sooner if I hadn't been severely under the weather this past weekend. My apologies for not already mentioning it.

Thinking about Many Things

Health Care and Government Take Over's

It is late at night, and as usual my mind is thinking about many things simultaneously. I took my husband on an outing today; he is disabled and can't get out and about unless I take him. He and I have talked many times about what will happen to him if the Obama Care bill makes it into law. Will his 40 plus years in the military be tossed out as a measure of his worth since he is too old and ill to serve? Will his life be judged on some presently unknown sliding scale of value and deemed unworthy of saving should he become seriously ill?

What about my life? I'm 8 years his junior, but still am old enough to be outside the bell curve. Is that what we have worked all our lives for? To be deemed unworthy of having these, our lives, saved in the event of an expensive illness? We have both lived long enough to have experienced many things and seen things we would never have dreamed of as children; computers and the internet being two. However, with all the marvels we have seen and experienced, this government take-over of health care, banks, the auto industry, and God knows what else never crossed our minds. If you had given us a crystal ball and showed us these things, we would have called you crazy.

Cap and Trade

Cap and Trade will probably be force fed to us just like health care. The soaring energy costs and resulting higher prices for everything else we buy as a result will wipe us out financially. My husband and I will go from being comfortable, lower middle class folks to poverty with a few strokes of Obama's pen. My husband is on a fixed income and while I have a manufacturing job; I don't know how long it will last. I could get laid off next week. Our factory is already down to half the people it had a year ago.

World Government

A treaty to create a world government is to be created by treaty soon. This is tied into the global warming "crisis".

Devalued Dollar and Oil Prices

Our dollar is losing its value against foreign currencies' at an alarming rate. Why? Because of all the borrowing Mr. Tax-and-Spend and his buddies in the Congress and Senate have done and continue to do. The more the dollar's value goes down; the higher the prices we pay for everything go. It's like the see-saw in a playground, one end is always up and the other down. When the dollar's value is up, prices are down. When the dollar is down prices are up.

Political Correctness and False Cries of Racism

I am so sick of hearing about this or that person being racist because they do not agree with the Chosen One. I don't think he is the Second Coming of Christ, as so many do. If anything, I believe he is a made to order Anti-Christ. The Cult of Obama that helped get him elected was my first indication that the man and his followers posed a threat to our country. But God save me, I did not see it as being as the complete destruction of the United States that it is becoming.

I am a Southern Girl and was raised to be polite and not to hurt people's feelings on purpose. That should be all that is necessary. Instead there are more rules for political correctness in speech; spoken or written, than anyone can keep track of. It is as if the PC Police have decided to erase creativity at all costs with their limitations on language.

Who Am I to Say These Things?

I am an average late-middle aged woman with children and grandchildren. I am a woman with no influence in this world outside my circle of friends and family. I am an American woman and I am mad as hell and scared to death.
